
Vice President for Corporate Compliance for Johns Hopkins Medicine, Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center
As a member of the executive office of Johns Hopkins Medicine and the management committee of The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation and The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Mr. Shealer is responsible for the management and supervision of a 20-attorney legal department, as well as for general corporate and business matters. He maintains oversight of claims, risk management and insurance for Hopkins Hospital and the health System and has primary responsibility for compliance with regulatory agencies. He previously was senior counsel for corporate and regulatory affairs, with primary responsibility for business, tax and regulatory matters for the health system.
Before coming to Johns Hopkins in 1990, Mr. Shealer was an attorney in two prominent Baltimore law firms: Smith, Somerville & Case and Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, practicing primarily in the health care field. He received his bachelor’s degree cum laude in 1981 from Juniata College in Pennsylvania and his law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1984.
