Mr. Ronald J. Werthman, M.B.A.

Vice President of Finance/Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for the Johns Hopkins Health System and The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Mr. Werthman is responsible for the operational and strategic direction of the finance division for the Health System and all of its affiliates, including Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Howard County General Hospital, four suburban health care and surgery centers; Johns Hopkins Community Physicians; the Johns Hopkins Home Care Group and other entities.

A 35-year veteran of the health care and higher education fields, Mr. Werthman became the vice president/CFO of the Johns Hopkins Health System and Hopkins Hospital in 1993. Under his leadership, Hopkins has achieved the highest operating margins in its history. He consolidated the health system and affiliates’ finance division under his direction and worked closely with the management team that developed and implemented a budget process that incorporates both the health system and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Before joining Johns Hopkins, Mr. Werthman was vice president/CFO of Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He also held similar positions at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y., and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Werthman received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Duquesne University in 1973 and his master’s degree from Robert Morris University in 1980. He is a member of a number of local boards and committees.
