RCR Program Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who is required to complete RCR?
    All SOM faculty and postdoctoral fellows involved in research (excluding house staff) are required to complete training in RCR.  The requirements apply specifically to the researchers on following programs: D43, D71, F05, F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F37, F38, K01, K02, K05, K07, K08, K12, K18, K22, K23, K24, K25, K26, K30, K99/R00, KL1, KL2, R25, R36, T15, T32, T34, T35, T36, T37, T90/R90, TL1, TU2, and U2R.  They also apply to researchers supported by any other NIH or NSF funded programs that involve research training, career development, or research education that require instruction in responsible conduct of research. 

  2. What are the components of the RCR Program?
    There are three required components of the RCR program:
      *  An online RCR course offered by CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative), available through myLearning in the Johns Hopkins portal
      *  The Dean’s Research Integrity Lecture series
      *  An annual department/division meeting on a relevant RCR topic.

  3.  Can I substitute RCR training completed elsewhere for the SOM requirement?
    If you have completed RCR training at another institution or through course work at SOM, SPH or Homewood, email integrity@jhmi.edu with the details of your RCR training and the Research Integrity staff will determine if the training fulfills the requirements. 

  4. Can any of the REWards workshops fulfill the RCR requirement?
    Two of the REWards workshops can be substituted for the Dean’s Research Integrity Lecture series:
      *  Data Acquisition
      *  Authorship Guidelines
