Women's Services: Women Have Special Physical Therapy Needs

Women Have Special Physical Therapy Needs

Women have unique needs related to changes in their bodies as they mature, such as puberty, pregnancy and perimenopause. Our therapists are broadly trained and can offer multiple strategies to help you heal. Some of the services we offer include:

  • musculoskeletal evaluations
  • biomechanical evaluation
  • strengthening and conditioning programs
  • pain relief through the use of advanced and progressive manual therapy techniques including rectal and vaginal approaches
  • pain-relieving modalities such as ultrasound and other forms of heat (for muscle relaxation and scar tissue management), electrical stimulation (for pain, swelling and motor incoordination) and TENS, a surface electrical device for pain reduction

For women with pelvic floor dysfunction, we also offer:

  • vaginal or rectal electrical stimulation
  • vaginal or rectal biofeedback
  • vaginal or rectal weights
  • vaginal or rectal cold packs
  • vaginal dilators

We provide convenient outpatient care. Each physical therapy session usually lasts for 60 minutes. Clients generally have one physical therapy session per week; our goal in most cases is to complete the course of therapy in six to eight weeks.
