We are pleased to announce that Laura Adams, Ph.D. has joined our faculty as an Assistant Professor. After graduating from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in 2002, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and returned to UTSW for a faculty position. Dr. Adams’ diverse clinical background includes experience in the areas of pain management, substance abuse rehabilitation, trauma recovery, inpatient psychiatry, and hospital consult-liaison services. Within the Johns Hopkins PM&R Department, Dr. Adams is now the attending psychologist for the inpatient spinal cord injury rehabilitation team, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Additionally, she will provide psychological services in adult outpatient rehabilitation in the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at Kennedy Krieger. Dr. Adams’ research experience includes the study of psychosocial interventions in the treatment of low back pain, and risk-assessment of opiate misuse among patients. Further interests include personal resiliency factors in recovery and rehabilitation following psychological and physical trauma.
