Physical Therapy Student Intern Welcome Letter

Dear Physical Therapy Student Intern,

We look forward to your clinical affiliation at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The Physical Therapy Department provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The specifics of services provided and hours of operation are included on the Clinical Site Information Form (CSIF). The Physical Therapy Department is open 365 days per year. Your schedule will depend upon patient care needs and your clinical instructor’s schedule, and may include weekend coverage. Students are responsible for arranging their own housing.

While at the Johns Hopkins Hospital you will have access to the Welch Medical Library, located one block north of Wolfe Street entrance of the hospital. Students with affiliations lasting eight weeks or longer can set up an email account through the library at the beginning of the affiliation.

If you have not received information from the ACCE at your school please contact the clinical education coordinator, Kelly Daley, three to four weeks before your clinical affiliation begins to obtain the name of your clinical instructor and the name of the service to which you are assigned for your internship. Kelly can be reached via email atkdaley3@jhmi.edu.

We would like to tailor your clinical experience to your specific learning style, educational interests and requirements. In order that we may better understand your preferred learning style and previous clinical experiences, please complete and return the learning style questionnaire and skills self-assessment one month prior to your start date if you are a full time student. Part time students can bring the forms their first day.  We recommend that full time students also include a resume.

On your first day park in the Orleans Street Garage.
Full time students should report to Phipps 340 for hospital orientation at 7:30 AM. At 1:00 PM come to Osler 159 and notify the secretary of your arrival. Part time students should report directly to Osler 159 unless instructed otherwise by their CI. The secretary will page your clinical instructor. Security guards are stationed at each entrance and can assist you with directions to any location in the hospital, call 410-955-6214 and ask to have Nancy Ciesla paged if  you encounter any problems. If your clinical internship is at our outpatient offsite satellite office at Green Spring Station, please contact that office at 410-583-2665 for directions or visit this section for travel directions. Green Spring Station is approximately a 20-minute drive from the hospital. Shuttle bus transportation is available from the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center (JHOC).

The Johns Hopkins Hospital is located at 600 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21287. Travel directions are available here. The main entrance to the hospital is on Wolfe Street. The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is located on the first floor of the Osler Building, Room 159.

Please dress professionally. A white lab coat or scrubs are recommended. Blue jeans are unacceptable. For additional information please review the contents of the Student Intern Information page.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email Kelly We look forward to your arrival.

Sincerely yours,

The JHH Physical Therapy Staff
