Sara Palmer received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the City University of New York in 1982. She has worked as a rehabilitation psychologist in university, hospital and private practice settings. She joined the faculty of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1999, and was the attending psychologist for the spinal cord injury team at Good Samaritan Hospital from 2002 -2007. She currently holds a part-time faculty appointment.
Dr. Palmer has served on the Committee on Disability Issues of the Maryland Psychological Association (MPA) since 1992, and was on MPA’s Board of Directors from 2006-2009. She is a regular presenter on psychosocial issues related to disability and rehabilitation for student, professional and consumer groups. She is the first author of Spinal Cord Injury: A Guide for Living, 2nd edition, a book for people with spinal cord injuries and their families, and is currently working on a book for spouse caregivers of stroke survivors.
