Dr. Gonzalez-Fernandez obtained her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1999, and completed her residency and chief residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in association with the University of Maryland.
Dr. Gonzalez-Fernandez is a mentor in the Johns Hopkins Latino Pre-medical Honor Society and is part of the faculty for the clinical epidemiology course for medical students.
Her research interests include the epidemiologic aspects of swallowing disorders after stroke and the neural control of swallowing function. Her clinical practice concentrates on neurorehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and amputee rehabilitation.
