Jennifer Stevenson, Ph.D., MPH

Dr. Stevenson joined the faculty of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine during 2010.  She completed a master’s degree in public health with an emphasis in epidemiology at Emory University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Washington State University.  Both her internship and postdoctoral fellowship were specialized in Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. 

Dr. Stevenson’s clinical work focuses on providing individualized psychological care designed to enhance the rehabilitation process and to promote healthy emotional and cognitive recovery from disability.  She assists individuals with disabilities, and their family members, in adapting to physical and cognitive limitations with the goals of enhancing psychological health, adaptation, independence, and social re-integration and participation.  This is achieved through psychological and neuropsychological assessment and treatment for patients with a variety of diagnoses including spinal cord injury, amputation, or other conditions impacting neurologic or orthopedic function.     

Dr. Stevenson focuses her research on improving outcomes for patients with spinal cord dysfunction and severe lower extremity trauma.  Her research interests include studying factors associated with positive outcome from medical rehabilitation for individuals with neurological and orthopedic disorders.  She also is interested in identifying clinical treatments for enhancing psychological, social, and physical function of persons who have endured a traumatic injury or who are living with a chronic neurological or orthopedic condition.
