Physical Therapy Student 

Schedule & Requirements

Day 1

    

7:30 AM
 Johns Hopkins Hospital Students -
Go to Phipps  340 for Hospital Orientation
(
Guard at any entrance will give directions)
Greenspring Station Students - report to Greenspring Station Clinic

 1:00 PM
Come to Osler 159 to meet CI
Department Orientation with CCCE
     Pain
     HIPAA
     Review of student manual
     Parking
      
 - bring parking ticket to set up parking
        _ with ticket free for first day

Days 2 and 3

8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Hospital Orientation Phipps 34O

Days 4-5

Service/Team Orientation
R
eview learning styles and experiences, observe treatment with CI, cotreat with CI, practice evaluation skills, begin building a caseload. CI will review safety expectations including treatment of patients with multiple lines, tubes and special equipment.

Week 2

Continue to Build a Caseload

Midterm

Carry a Caseload 
5-7 patients

tart preparing journal review article

Midterm -
end of affiliation

Continue to build a caseload with CI
Achieve departmental productivity standards for billing
Schedule an exit interview with the CCCE 2 weeks prior to the end of the affiliation. 

After discussion with and approval by the CI opportunites exist to:

  • Observe surgery
  • Attend  rounds
  • Observe physical therapy on diffferent services
  • Observe care by other members of the heathcare Team.

Students must complete the APTA approved Physical Therapist Student Evaluation Form by the end of the clinical affiliation.

Education

 Weekly staff presentations

Student Lecture Series 
Each week on Wednesday at 12:30 a
presentation is given by a staff member  in the Osler 159 gym.

Research Presentation

Full time students are expected to review two studies in the professional literature and present a 30 minute analytical review of the articles.
Any physical therapy related medical or  healthcare professional journal is acceptable. The topic should be approved by the CI no later than two weeks prior to the presentation. The review should be presented at midterm, Place a copy of the articles in the CCCE's mailbox.

Inservice Presentation

Second and third year full time students are required to present a 30-45 minute inservice on a topic of interest. A list of inservice topics is provided to choose from. The topic should be approved by the CI two weeks prior to the to the presentation. Check with your CI regarding where to get audiovisual equipment. This form is used by staff to evalute student presentations.

Welch Library

Resources at the Welch library are available to all students with Hopkins ID badges.  Students can obtain articles manually or electronically, including publications at outside libraries.

Communication

Students are expected to promote a team approach to patient care. Students are to communicate any issues/concerns directly with their CI or the CCCE.
