Welcome

Johns Hopkins Occupational Therapy provides services to acute care inpatients, outpatients, partial hospital patients and those patients on our Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIIRP). During your affiliation, you will be assigned a primary service and supervisor, although you may have the opportunity to work in some of the other clinical areas. Your schedule will depend upon patient care needs and your supervisor’s schedule and may include early evening or weekend coverage. Please inform the fieldwork coordinator in advance if you require an adapted work schedule or have special needs.

Students are responsible for arranging their own housing and meals during their affiliation. Parking options for students are reviewed during Hospital orientation. The dress code is business casual for fieldwork in mental health; scrub sets are required for physical disabilities services.

When you arrive for your affiliation, the Hospital requires that you bring with you a written proof of a TB test and verification of Hepatitis B vaccination (or declination thereof).  If you have tested positive (TB test), then please bring a chest xray read by your physician within the last 12 months. For medical issues that may arise during your affiliation, there is an Occupational Health Clinic and Emergency Department on site.

In order for us to understand your specific needs, goals, learning style and interests, we ask that Level II students complete and return the student questionnaire located on this site. During your first weeks, you will receive education on a variety of topics that relate to successful completion of your affiliation at Johns Hopkins. We expect that you will take the initiative in your learning experience and take responsibility for your professional growth as you transition from student to practitioner. Please come prepared with textbooks, relevant instructional aides or other assistive educational devices to use in your clinical experience.

Affiliating students will receive information about parking and orientation in the Human Resources packet.  You will receive information about your assigned service and supervisor, as well as where to report on your first clinical day.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us.  We look forward to your arrival and to assisting you in your clinical education.

Jan Jaskulski, M.S., OTR
