Mohanambe Lingappa, Ph.D.

Dr. Mohanambe Lingappa is a post-doctoral fellow in the Radionuclide Therapy and Dosimetry Research Lab, Division of Nuclear Medicine in the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at The Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine.  She received her Master`s degree in Physical Chemistry from Bangalore University in India and her Ph.D. in solid-state intercalation chemistry from Indian Institute of Science in India.

Dr. Lingappa has worked on specifically the functionalization of an anionic clay, Mg-Al Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH), by anchoring carboxy-methyl derivatized ?-cyclodextrin cavities and long-chain anionic surfactant molecules to the walls of the galleries, converting the essentially hydrophilic interlamellar region of LDH to one that is considerably less polar, in principle, provide a combination of the best of both worlds; the host-guest chemistry of the organic guest with the mechanical and thermal stabilities of the inorganic host. Title of her Ph.D. thesis is “Host-Guest Chemistry of Functionalized Layered Double Hydroxides".

Research

Dr. Lingappa is currently working on is titled “Anti-tumor immunization by liposomal delivery of vaccine to the spleen”. The overall objective of the project is to test develop a novel approach to delivering the vaccine to those cells in the body that are most effective at activating the immune system and mounting an anti-tumor reaction strategy of treating metastatic breast cancer. She is also working on “Liposomal Delivery of Bi-213 for Alpha-Emitter Targeting of Metastatic Breast Cancer”. The hypothesis is that liposomal delivery of Bi-213 will provide both technical and therapeutic advantages over antibody-based delivery. Dr. Lingappa is also working on using large receptor coated engineered liposomes for the rapid removal of toxic agents from the circulation.
