University Mental Health Services

University Mental Health Services is a confidential diagnostic and treatment program for medical students, graduate students, trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and spouses/same-sex domestic partners seeking psychiatric treatment. 

INITIAL CONSULTATION

Your first visit will allow us to get a sense of your needs and to provide a comprehensive psychiatric and mental health evaluation.  We will formulate a treatment plan that will address your concerns and make appropriate referrals when necessary.

CONFIDENTIALITY 

Your treatment will be private and confidential. What you discuss with your treatment provider will not be communicated to anyone without your permission, except if there is a danger to yourself or others.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

The mental health benefits (through Student Health Program and the University Health Services) provides unlimited visits if care is received through University Mental Health Services. It is financially advantageous to use University Mental Health Services. If you seek care outside of University Mental Health Services, the Student Health Program provides 52% of the reasonable and customary charges for the first 20 visits, then 50% of reasonable and customary charges for visits beyond 20.

STAFF

Dr. Ellen Lent is a licensed psychologist and workplace consultant with over 25 years’ experience in a variety of settings.  Dr. Lent is an experienced psychotherapist, career counselor, leadership coach, consultant, public speaker, trainer, and writer.  Her PhD in counseling psychology is from Michigan State University.  Settings in which she has worked and consulted include high-technology manufacturing and software development, state and federal government, universities, and health care institutions including large urban hospitals.  She has adjunct appointments with the University of Maryland, American University, and the Center for Creative Leadership.

She has provided employee assistance consultation and mental health services in university and general hospital settings.  For 12 years she has supervised doctoral-level students at University of Maryland in their psychotherapy training.  Currently she is serving as the Chair of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards for the Maryland Psychological Association.  Her publications have focused on psychotherapy and career counseling issues, self-efficacy, and job satisfaction.  She has made over one hundred presentations in the US, Canada, and Europe. 


Mary Marshall Teer is the Clinical Coordinator for University Mental Health. She has been working at Johns Hopkins since January 2007 and has been with University Mental Health since January 2008. She got her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Elon University and is now pursuing her first Master’s degree at Johns Hopkins. Mary Marshall schedules appointments for University Mental Health Services.
