SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES

The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Inpatient Treatment

Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) - a five-bed unit that provides medically-supervised detoxification.

Motivated Behaviors Unit (MBU) - an eight-bed unit which specializes in the treatment of patients with both substance use and other psychiatric disorders.

Partial Hospitalization (Day Hospital)

First Step Program - a partial hospitalization program offering integrated treatment for patients with alcohol/substance abuse and co-occurring medical/psychiatric conditions.

Outpatient Services

Program for Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependences (PAODD) - offers comprehensive treatment services (medical, psychiatric, social services and family needs) for persons in the community experiencing acute or chronic substance abuse/dependence. Call 410- 955-5439.

Comprehensive Women's Center - a gender-specific program within PAODD for drug dependent women. Call 410-955-9534.

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

Addiction Treatment Services (ATS) - a comprehensive treatment center offering standard outpatient care, and intensive outpatient care including treatment for dual-diagnosis patients.

Behavioral Pharmocology Research Unit (BPRU)- a residential reserch unit and outpatient treatment/research clinic that is part of a broad-based research program conducting human laboratory and clinical treatment research.

Dual-Diagnosis Substance Abuse Program - offers inpatient detoxification, assessment and transition services to individuals suffering from both substance use disorders and other psychiatric illnesses.

Center for Addiction and Pregnancy (CAP) - an outpatient and residential program providing a comprehensive, coordinated, and multidisciplinary approach to drug-dependent pregnant women (including post partum) as well as pediatric services. 

Center for Learning and Health (CLH)- a research unit dedicated to developing and testing innovative employment-based interventions to reduce drug addiction.

National Drug Abuse Treatment (NDAT) Clinical Trials Network: Mid-Atlantic Node - sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to conduct effectiveness research in community-based clinics and to foster adoption of evidence-based interventions and practices.
