Schizophrenia Treatment Services and Facilities

SERVICES

Acute inpatient treatment.  The Johns Hopkins Schizophrenia Program operates a seven-bed inpatient unit on Meyer 5 of The Johns Hopkins Hospital for patients who are acutely ill and need 24-hour supervised care for their safety and to initiate treatment. The full range of evaluative services is also available as necessary for comprehensive individualized care.

Partial hospitalization (Day Hospital):  Step-down and Step-up services.  For patients who do not need 24 hour inpatient care, treatment can be provided in our day hospital. Patients can enter the Day Hospital from inpatient treatment in our unit or elsewhere (“Step-down”) or from outpatient treatment (“Step-up").

FACILITIES

Inpatient treatment unit.  We operate a seven-bed inpatient unit on Meyer 5 of The Johns Hopkins Hospital. This unit is designed for patients desiring a three to seven day consultative admission focusing on establishing a definitive diagnosis and developing a comprehensive treatment plan. The unit is also designed for initiating treatment of acutely ill patients.

Partial hospitalization (Day Hospital) treatment unit.  Our day hospital also operates on Meyer 5 of The Johns Hopkins Hospital.  It is open seven days a week, from 8 am to 8 pm. Like the inpatient unit, the Day Hospital clinicians form a multidisciplinary team dedicated to state-of-the- art care for patients with schizophrenia. We are able to provide housing for many of our Day Hospital patients.

Housing for Day Hospital patients.  The Schizophrenia Program provides convenient supervised housing within easy walking distance of The Johns Hopkins Hospital for many of our Day Hospital patients.

Outpatient Clinic.  Located on the first floor of the Meyer Building of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, this clinic offers a several-hour assessment supervised by a Schizophrenia Program psychiatrist focusing on diagnosis and treatment options. Patients who require more comprehensive evaluation or treatment may then be referred to either the Day Hospital or inpatient units.
