OUR MISSION

The mission of the Johns Hopkins Schizophrenia Program is to provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for individuals with schizophrenia and related disorders, including schizoaffective disorder and delusional disorder. We recognize the central role of families in the process of diagnosis and treatment and the right of every patient to receive the finest quality medical care in an atmosphere of honesty and respect. All patients will be offered opportunities to help advance knowledge about schizophrenia and to help future generations of doctors, nurses, and others learn how to provide competent and compassionate care.

CLINICAL CARE OF SCHIZOPHRENIA
AND RELATED DISORDERS

The type of disorders treated by the Johns Hopkins schizophrenia program.
Our services are designed to assist patients with a variety of different diagnoses, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, delusional disorder, and psychotic NOS ('not otherwise specified'). Our services may be particularly valuable for patients who do not have a clear diagnosis.

Consultative, second opinion, and diagnostic services.
We offer both a comprehensive inpatient evaluation and a more focused three hour outpatient evaluation.

Treatment services.
We offer short-term inpatient treatment for individuals with severe symptoms or other complications. For individuals who are less acutely ill, we offer treatment in a partial hospitalization (day hospital) program. Housing near Johns Hopkins Hospital is available for many of the patients attending the day hospital.

Part of the goal of the Johns Hopkins Schizophrenia Program is to continually seek out new knowledge that will improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with schizophrenia and related disorders. We offer interested individuals the opportunity to participate in the various research projects directed by members of our faculty.
