RESEARCH ASSISTANT Positions Available |
The Residency in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins Hospital is designed to provide a comprehensive and broad-based education in psychiatric diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents, and their families. The program focuses on developing skill in diagnostic interviewing, case formulation, treatment planning, and psychotherapeutic and pharmacologic management in the context of a strong knowledge base in child development, principles of research, and familiarity with the function and organization of health, education, and welfare institutions.
A two-year program is offered with six residents per year led by faculty dedicated to teaching, clinical care, and individual research pursuits. Strengths include a large full time faculty directed by Mark Riddle, M.D., a stable educational program led by Emily Frosch, M.D., and a diverse clinical portfolio that reflects the expertise of our varied faculty members. Access to the myriad of resources in the Department of Psychiatry, the Children’s Center/Department of Pediatrics, specialists in the School of Medicine, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and other University programs and faculty contribute to a robust learning environment.

THE FACULTY
- There are over 200 full-time faculty within the Department of Psychiatry; many have joint appointments in other departments (e.g. Medicine, Neurology, Pediatrics) and in the School of Public Health.
- There are 175 part-time faculty of the department who are available to serve as additional supervisors and mentors for residents.
- All full-time psychiatrists on the faculty are involved in clinical work and research as there are no separate research, clinical,or teaching faculty.
- All full-time M.D. faculty attend for part of the year on the inpatient wards or in the day hospital programs.

Annual Housestaff Salary for the 2007-2008 Academic Year
PGY IV - $ 50,382
Maryland License fees and renewals are paid for by the department
Vacations: PGY IV year - four 1 week vacations
Benefits include health insurance, disability insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, uniforms, retirement fund contributions, and meals on call.
