Understanding Medicare Part D

Johns Hopkins Medicine - Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

TALKING TO YOUR PATIENTS ABOUT MEDICARE PART D

Overview

The new MEDICARE PART D prescription drug benefit program started January 1, 2006. Health professionals need to understand how this complex program works before they can help their patients obtain the medications they need. The Department of Psychiatry Social Work has compiled this resource as a basic guide to assist mental health professionals in Maryland. As we anticipate changes to occur regularly, these pages will be periodically updated.

The information is organized into four chapters in a question and answer format.

Chapter 1:Choosing to Join
Chapter 2:Helping Low Income Patients
Chapter 3:Choosing a Program in Maryland
Chapter 4:Using the Program
Miscellaneous:UPDATES
