THE JOHNS HOPKINS HOSPITAL NAMED ONE OF WORLD’S MOST ETHICAL ORGANIZATIONS

March 30, 2010-The Ethisphere Institute, a New York-based think tank established to advance best practices in business ethics and corporate social responsibility, has named The Johns Hopkins Hospital to its 2010 list of the world’s most ethical companies and institutions.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital was one of 100 organizations selected from among hundreds of nominees representing 33 industries. Criteria for selection include corporate citizenship and responsibility, corporate governance, innovation that contributes to public well-being, industry leadership, executive leadership, legal and regulatory performance, and solid ethics-compliance programs. Further details of the methodology and selection process for the awards can be found at http://ethisphere.com/wme2010.

“All of us at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System are honored to have received this recognition for the second year in a row,” says Ronald R. Peterson, president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System. “It is not enough to provide the finest care available. That care must also be provided within a highly principled and ethical environment. To do anything less is a great disservice to our patients, ourselves and the principles under which our Hospital was established more than a century ago.”

Others on this year’s list include Google, Xerox, General Electric, Mattel, Texas Instruments, Cleveland Clinic, General Mills, Hospital Corporation of America, Starbucks Coffee Company, Target, Time Warner, IKEA and Starbucks.

Ethisphere Magazine, which publishes the World’s Most Ethical Companies Ranking, is the quarterly publication of the institute.
