ANNUAL JOHNS HOPKINS WOMEN’S HEALTH CONFERENCE COMING TO NAPLES

January 13, 2010-The latest findings on women’s health and new advances in preventing, detecting and treating diseases that affect women will be presented Friday, Jan. 22, at Naples’ first annual A Woman’s Journey program sponsored by Johns Hopkins Medicine.  The one-day conference, at the Naples Yacht Club, begins at 9:45 a.m. and concludes at 11:30 a.m.

“Women are always looking for more health and medical information on how to take care of themselves, their family and loved ones,” says Naples resident Anne Armstrong, who is co-chairing AWJ Naples along with Rand Mason.  “As women, we understand that we need to be better advocates, and the more knowledge we have about serious conditions that can affect us or our families, the better.  To have the foremost experts in the world, who are working and researching at Johns Hopkins, as presenters is just an incredible opportunity.”

Hopkins doctors and specialists will give three 20-minute presentations covering new medical treatments and important health issues facing women, including bone health and cancer.  Speakers are available for discussion with attendees at the conclusion of the seminar.

A Woman’s Journey was the creation of two women from Baltimore, Md., Harriet Legum and Mollye Block, who together realized the need to provide women with a forum to gain knowledge about their health concerns.  For the last 13 years, the annual health symposium, which takes place every November in Baltimore, has attracted nearly 1,000 women.  The event, which continues to be a tremendous resource for the community, features 32 seminars taught by Johns Hopkins physicians and faculty that highlight advancements in diagnosis and treatment of women’s diseases.  A half-day program will take place for the third year in West Palm Beach on Thursday, Jan. 21.
