JOINT COMMISSION INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITS JOHNS HOPKINS-AFFILIATED CLEMENCEAU MEDICAL CENTER IN LEBANON
March 3, 2009- The Clemenceau Medical Center (CMC) in Beirut, Lebanon, has been awarded the official accreditation of the Joint Commission International (JCI). CMC is one of only two medical centers in Lebanon to hold JCI accreditation.
Johns Hopkins Medicine International — the Baltimore, Maryland, USA-based international arm of Johns Hopkins Medicine — prepared CMC for the JCI accreditation review, conducting assessments and mock surveys on the ground and by videoconference. Johns Hopkins experts also provided rigorous training for the CMC staff in quality, safety, infection control, leadership, nursing and human resource management, according to Hopkins officials.
“We commend the executive team, doctors, nursing staff, and all the ancillary and support staff of Clemenceau Medical Center for their commitment to providing quality care that meets the highest international health care standards in safety and quality,” says Harris Benny, chief executive officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine International. “We are confident that reaching this milestone will help CMC become one of the leading medical facilities in the region and enable it to provide world-class health care to the local community and beyond.”
“Excellence and relentless commitment for high-quality patient care is deeply instilled in Clemenceau Medical Center’s culture, and this is personified in CMC’s physicians, nurses and staff,” says Dr. Mounes Kalaawi, chief executive officer of Clemenceau Medical Center. “Together, they share a single focus and are devoted to helping patients. They are inspired to offer great service and gain the community’s confidence. Joint Commission International accreditation is recognition of our commitment to this excellence, which has been CMC’s passion all along.”
CMC, a 106-bed, modern medical center in the heart of Beirut, Lebanon, signed an affiliation agreement with Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI) in 2002 and was JHI’s first Middle Eastern partnership. The agreement includes collaborations in clinical program development, patient and quality management services, and educational packages for physicians, nurses and technical staff.
Johns Hopkins Medicine’s presence in the Middle East also includes the operational management of three other JCI-accredited hospitals in the United Arab Emirates (Tawam, Al Rahba and Al Corniche) owned by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA). Other Johns Hopkins Medicine affiliations include Anadolu Medical Center (Gebze, Turkey), Clínica Las Condes (Santiago, Chile) and Tokyo Midtown Medical Center (Tokyo, Japan).
