JOHNS HOPKINS OFFICIAL NAMED TO “SUPERLAWYERS” LIST

Wes Blakeslee, J.D., executive director of technology transfer at The Johns Hopkins University, has been named to the 2008 Maryland SuperLawyers list by Super Lawyers magazine, a national publication.

Blakeslee leads an office of more than 30 professionals who help commercialize the discoveries and invention of university faculty members.

“Peer recognition is an honor, as is the opportunity and privilege I have to help advance the mission of this great university by bringing the benefits of discovery to the marketplace,” says Blakeslee of the listing.

Attorneys in each state are chosen by their peers through an independent research process that examines the background, experience and achievements of each candidate, including previous awards and honors, specialist licensing and certification, scholarship and publications.A former NASA engineer and an expert in intellectual property law, Blakeslee received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. 

He co-founded the Carroll County law firm of Blakeslee and Wallace before joining Johns Hopkins in 1999 in the university’s Office of General Counsel, where he specialized in intellectual property law, sponsored research, technology and business deals.

In 2006, Blakeslee received the innaugural “First Decade” award from the National Association of College and University Attorneys, presented to a member with 10 or fewer years of service who has made a significantly innovative contribution to the association or who has provided outstanding service to the practice of higher education law.

As head of the Johns Hopkins University tech transfer office, he oversees a service that in FY 2007 processed invention disclosures and license agreements and managed agreements that generated more than $10 million in revenue. Blakeslee and his family live in Westminster, Carroll County.
