Community Center to Provide Hopkins H.E.A.L.T.H Services to East Baltimore Residents

THE NEWS: The Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute and its partner organizations will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony, tour and health fair to celebrate the grand opening of the Johns Hopkins Center for Community Health Education, Advocacy, Leadership and Training at Hopkins (HEALTH) Center.  The center helps underserved area residents without health insurance in getting access to health care and health education.

The Health Fair will offer residents and others in attendance free screenings for general health risk, asthma, prostate cancer, HIV, and oral and heart health.  Participants also can learn about breast cancer, lead paint poisoning, smoking cessation, addiction treatment and recovery options and other health topics.

The 3,000-square-foot facility contains patient triage, focus group and interview areas as well as a conference room and administrative offices.  The center will be staffed by Johns Hopkins faculty, staff and students and anticipates serving 100 to 250 residents per week.
