Wilmer Eye Institute Named Top Program by Ophthalmology Times 10th Consecutive Time
For the 10th year running, the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins has been named the best overall ophthalmology program in the country by Ophthalmology Times. The publication’s rankings, which appear in the Oct. 15 issue, were compiled from a poll of ophthalmology department chairmen and directors of residency programs across the United States.
Wilmer also took top honors in the magazine’s best research and best clinical (patient care) programs categories and is ranked number three in the best residency (teaching) programs. The Institute receives more than $20 million annually in research funding.
"Once again we are gratified and pleased by the show of support by the chairmen of the ophthalmic departments across the country," says Peter McDonnell, M.D., Wilmer director. "The Wilmer Eye Institute is known throughout the world, not only for research, but for management of both common and exceptionally complex, serious eye conditions."
Others in the top five in the best overall ophthalmology programs category were Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami; Jules Stein Hospital, University of California-Los Angeles; University of Iowa and Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia.
