From
the Director
Welcome
to The Johns Hopkins Center of Excellence in Rhinology and Sinus
Surgery. We are committed to the diagnosis, management, and research
of diseases
of the nose and paranasal sinuses.
Nasal and sinus problems are among the most common health conditions
for which patients seek medical attention. Rhinosinusitis is the number
one self-reported chronic health condition in the United States, affecting
between 30 and 40 million people each year. Symptoms of nasal and sinus
problems include nasal blockage, stuffiness, nasal drainage, sinus pressure,
cough, fatigue, headache, and the loss of the sense of smell and taste.
Fortunately, a broad variety of medical and surgical therapies are available
to treat nasal and sinus diseases, and new approaches are constantly
being developed.
At the Johns Hopkins Center of Excellence in Rhinology and Sinus Surgery,
patients of all ages and from many parts of the world take advantage
of our full range of state-of-the-art services used to evaluate, diagnose
and treat nasal and sinus problems. We welcome even the most complex
of cases, knowing that, if necessary, we can draw from the expertise
of colleagues in other Hopkins departments to provide accurate and comprehensive
care from a multidisciplinary perspective.
In addition, the faculty of the Center of Excellence in Rhinology is
engaged in an unparalleled basic science and clinical research effort
to explore the causes of nasal and sinus disorders. We partner with instrument
and pharmaceutical companies to assist in the development of the most
modern technological advancements for management of sinusitis - such
as advanced surgical instruments, surgical robotics and novel medical
therapies – to be used to provide our patients with the absolutely
highest level of care available today.
