Department
of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Diversity Mission Statement:
The
Johns Hopkins Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery has
adopted the values and priorities of the Johns Hopkins Institutions regarding
diversity and inclusion. Specifically, the department is committed to
sharing values of diversity and inclusion in order to achieve and sustain
excellence. We firmly believe that we can best promote excellence by recruiting
and retaining a diverse group of students, residents, faculty and staff
by creating a climate of respect that is supportive of their success.
This climate for diversity, inclusion and excellence is critical to attaining
the best research, scholarship, teaching, health care and other strategic
goals of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and
the Johns Hopkins Institutions. These values are recognized and supported
fully by the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. Further,
we recognize that the responsibility for excellence, diversity and inclusion
lies with all of us in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck
Surgery.
In order to achieve the goals stated in the departmental mission statement
on diversity, the department has created a diversity committee comprised
of faculty members and residents (Chairperson: Sandra Lin. Faculty
members: Kofi Boahene, Christine Gourin, Patrick Ha, Stacey Ishman, Douglas
Reh, Ghassan Sinada. Resident members: Yuri Agrawal, Alejandro Rivas,
Babar Sultan). The committee is charged with promoting the value
of diversity in the workplace, and facilitating the presence of a supportive
environment of inclusion in the department. The committee advises departmental
leadership in how to promote diversity and inclusion among faculty and
residents, including the recruitment and retention of faculty and residents.
The department is committed to supporting and mentoring medical and dental
students in order to help future physicians achieve excellence. Medical
and dental students interested in spending a day with a minority or female
faculty member are welcome. Please contact Christine Stansbury, 410-955-1932,
