Paul J. Scheel, Jr., M.D., M.B.A.
Paul J. Scheel, Jr, MD, MBA, is Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Nephrology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, both in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, Dr. Scheel serves as Medical Director of Integrated Renal Solutions in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
After earning his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, Dr. Scheel completed an internship and residency in internal medicine on the Osler Medical Service at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in nephrology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a master of business administration degree at The Johns Hopkins University School of Professional Studies and Education.
Dr. Scheel is renowned for his investigation of renal disease and dialysis therapy. He is on the editorial boards of Journal of Renal Replacement Therapy and Journal of Clinical Therapeutics. He has been featured in many professional publications, including The American Journal of Kidney Disease, Kidney International, and The New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr. Scheel is board-certified in nephrology. Additionally, he is a Fellow of The American Society of Nephrology and is certified by the American Society of Hypertension. .
Research Interests:
1) Silica and Chronic Kidney Disease: Dr Scheel is currently the principle investigator in a retrospective cohort study of surface miners who have been exposed to respirable silica dust. The study is analyzing the relationship, if any, between the dose of silica exposure and GFR
2) Retroperitoneal Fibrosis: Dr Scheel has multiple studies underway attempting to ascertain the pathogenesis and preferred treatment for patients with Retroperitoneal Fibrosis. Read more about this topic...
