DOM Research Retreat 2010

Turner Auditorium/Concourse

The Department of Medicine Research Retreat will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. The Retreat will take place in Turner Auditorium/Concourse.

The Retreat format will include:

  • General research poster sessions
  • Panel presentations on key topics
  • Keynote speaker: Hal Dietz, MD Victor A. McKusick Professor of Genetics and Medicine and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator: "Marfan Syndrome and Related Disorders: From Molecules to Medicines"
  • Presentation of the David M. Levine Excellence in Mentoring Awards
  • Presentation of Research Awards in four categories:
    • Basic Research, Fellow
    • Clinical Research, Fellow
    • Basic Research, Jr. Faculty
    • Clinical Research, Jr. Faculty

Research Abstracts and Awards

Every year the Research Retreat showcases the research efforts of our remarkable Department. Any fellow or faculty member is encouraged to submit an abstract. If you would like to be considered for an award, please submit a 2 page summary (1 inch margins, 12 point font Times New Roman, single spaced) that clearly answers the following areas (~500 words each):

1.) The broad significance of your research to medicine

2.) Your major research hypothesis or question and approach

3.) Your findings and how your research relates to your early career goals

Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Postdoctoral Clinical Research Award
  • Postdoctoral Basic Research Award
  • Junior Faculty Clinical Research Award
  • Junior Faculty Basic Research Award


If you submit an abstract there will be a board supplied for you to display your scientific poster. Abstract submissions will only be accepted via e-mail. Please click here for the submission form. Specify the size of your poster (8" x 4" or 4"x 4") in the e-mail.

The David M. Levine Excellence in Mentoring Awards

All full- or part-time Faculty members with a primary appointment within the DOM are eligible for nomination. Nominations will be accepted from full- or part-time Faculty and post-doctoral Fellows (MD, MD-PhD, or PhD) within the DOM who were mentored by the nominee. Previous awardees are not eligible. In order for the nomination packet to be complete there must be a primary nomination letter, 2 supporting letters and a complete list of mentees. The criteria can be found here. The deadline for the David M. Levine in Excellence in Mentoring Awards is Friday, April 9, 2010.
