The Department of Medicine research retreat entitled 'New Models for Scientific Investigation at Academic Medical Centers' will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009.  The retreat will take place at Turner Auditorium/Concourse.  Format of this retreat include:

  • Keynote speaker:  Donna Shalala, President, University of Miami
  • Moderated Poster Sessions of select Research Abstracts
  • General Research Poster Sessions
  • Panel presentations on key topics
  • Presentation of the David M. Levine Excellence in Mentoring Awards
  • Presentation of Research Awards in four categories:
    a. Basic Research, Fellows; b. Clinical Research, Fellows; c. Basic Research, Jr. Faculty; d. Clinical Research, Jr. Faculty

Research Abstracts and Awards

One Postdoctoral Clinical Research Award, Postdoctoral Basic Research Award, Junior Faculty Clinical Research Award, and Junior Faculty Basic Research Award will be awarded.  Please select the appropriate award category AND include a narrative not exceeding 3 single-spaced pages.

Abstracts and award applications are due by Friday, April 3 2009.  The narrative should include additional details and context for the data presented in the abstract and should further describe your body of work.  If you are including tables and/or figures, please include this within the 3-page limit.

The David M. Levine Excellence in Mentoring Awards

All full- or part-time Faculty members with a primary appointment within the DOM are eligible for nomination.  Nominations will be accepted from full- or part-time Faculty and post-doctoral Fellows (MD, MD-PhD, or PhD) within the DOM who were mentored by the nominee.  Previously submitted nominations are acceptable with any necessary updates.  Applicants in the past 3 years will be automatically renominated unless we hear otherwise.  Previous awardees are not eligible.  In order for the nomination packet to be complete there must be a primary nomination letter, a list of mentees and 2 support letters.
