The Department of Medicine conducts numerous educational conferences. Some, like the daily noon conferences, are targeted specifically at the goals of the housestaff curriculum, and others, like Medical Grand Rounds, help make the housestaff and faculty aware that they are a profession dedicated to healing. Noon conferences are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and are directed to specific topics determined by the curriculum. Lunches are provided free. Grand Rounds are conducted on Fridays by the faculty. All of the presentations are patient based (not lectures), and approximately half of the time the patient is interviewed live at Grand Rounds, thereby preserving the patient focus emphasized by Osler.
