Letter From the Director of Medicine

Mark Anderson

Johns Hopkins University

School of Medicine

Mark E. Anderson, M.D., Ph.D.
William Osler Professor of Medicine
Director, Department of Medicine
Physician-in-Chief, Johns Hopkins Hospital

The Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins is committed to fostering an environment where faculty and staff from a variety of backgrounds can thrive. Diversity gives us strength in each of our three missions and allows us to approach the challenges of academic medicine from many angles and viewpoints to create innovative solutions that would be otherwise impossible.

The Diversity Council leads many exciting and important initiatives and programs each year, showcased on this website, such as the Myron L. Weisfeldt Distinguished Visiting Professorship in Diversity program and the 4th Year Medical Student Visiting Clerkship Program. However, as director, I am most excited by the guidance the Diversity Council provides to our faculty and trainees through mentorship and development and the focus on recruitment of talented individuals to join our faculty and staff. We are an organization that excels at recruiting the best and brightest and helping develop them into leaders in their field, and I believe fostering groups of underrepresented scientists and clinicians to become our future leaders is one of our most important jobs.

I invite you to learn more about our department and the Diversity Council via this website. A visit to our institution and department would show you more of the excellence and collegiality that characterize Johns Hopkins.

Sincerely,

Mark Anderson signature
