Criteria for Course/Clerkship Evaluation
- An explanation of the student outcomes (objectives) for the course.
- A description of the course content and structure, to include its relationship to that part of the curriculum within which it occurs, as well as its relationship to the overall goals of the undergraduate medical education program. Supporting documentation can include data from the AAMC CurrMIT (curriculum management tool), other graphic or tabular data, as necessary.
- An analysis of the methods of instruction used in fulfilling the intended student outcomes, including a description of the different kinds of methods used and their appropriateness in meeting the course goals.
- A description of the assessment system used to determine student success in meeting the intended course goals, including data that support this success.
- A description of the methods used to monitor the course through valid evaluation measures such as end-of-course questionnaires, faculty peer review, student focus groups, etc. The data should highlight relative strengths and weakness of the course, both historically and by currently available national data (e.g. AAMC survey). This section should also include the steps taken to address any instructional areas or faculty skills in need of improvement.
- An outline of resources required to deliver the curriculum, including areas such as faculty effort, instructional support, materials and space. Issues/inadequacies related to these should be highlighted.
- A clear statement of the vision for the course during the next review cycle, including any outstanding barriers to the successful delivery of the course.
- An overview of any educational scholarship activities (research, presentations, etc.) conducted during the previous review period and ideas or formal proposals if any, for conducting future scholarship activities.
