Training Grant Role:
I am the primary instructor for Introduction to Genetic Epidemiology.
Research Interests:
The epidemiology of diabetes and related conditions. My collaborators and I have conducted several population-based studies nested within the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study to examine environmental and genetic (candidate gene approach) risk factors for the development of obesity and type 2 diabetes. I am also currently involved in the FIND Study (Family Investigation of Diabetes and Nephropathy), which is a NIH-funded study that uses MALD to map genes that confer susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy in ESRD patients. Finally, I am actively involved in a project which uses simulated data to evaluate the efficiencies of various methods for gene-by-environment interactions
