Gueno Nedeltchev, DVM

Research Associate, Division of Infectious Diseases

Gueno Nedeltchev

Current Research Interests:

Cavitary model of Tuberculosis in rabbits. Rabbits are the only small animal model in which it is possible to produce cavitary tuberculosis. The infection is introduced by means of a flexible bronchoscope in the desired location of the lungs and the development of tuberculosis is monitored. The main goal is to find the mechanisms of cavity formation.

Previous Research Activities:

Surgical model of brain stroke in rats.  Occlusion of middle cerebral artery with nylon monofilament for two hours followed by reperfusion. Investigating the effect of the estrogen on the size of the stroke. Development of new blood clot model of brain stroke which resembles the conditions in real stroke.

Foreign bodies in the complex stomach of ruminants. The nature of food ingestion in ruminants allows swallowing of sharp objects. The objects penetrate through the wall of the stomach compartments and the consequences are traumatic reticulitis (reticulum is one of the compartments), traumatic reticuloperitonitis, and traumatic pericarditis which lead to lost of the animal and its production.

Ulcer protective effect of Rutin and other flavonoids isolated from flowers of Sophora japonica tree. The effect is observed in mice with stress induced gastrointestinal ulcers. Rutin shows a certain protective action against gastrointestinal ulcers.
