The following individuals have played a significant role in taking us where we are.
They are are listed chronologically, according to date of departure:

Wawersik, Matt
-Graduate student (1995-2001)
-Matt characterized the impact of elevated K16 levels on the propertiesof skin keratinocytes (proliferation, differentiation, migration, adhesion)

-Currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Marc van Doren's laboratory at Johns Hopkins University (Dept. Biology).

Ma, Linglei
-Graduate student (1996-2001)
-Linglei started the biophysical work towards the characterization of the micromechanical properties of keratin polymers
-Currently a Pathology Resident at Yale university medical School, New Haven, CT.

Yamada, Soichiro
-Graduate student (1996-2001) in our collaborator Dr. Denis Wirtz's laboratory (see below)
-So spent a little more than two full years in our laboratory 1999-2001. He graduated in April 2001.
-Currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. W. James Nelson's laboratory at Stanford University.

McGowan, Kevin
-Postdoctoral fellow 1996-2000
-Until recently Kevin was "Mr. Keratin 17" in the lab...
-Currently a Senior Scientist at ExonHit Therapeutics, a biotechnology company located in Gaithersburg, MD.

Bousquet, Olivier
-Postdoctoral fellow 1997-2000
-Olivier's work has focused on the properties of the non-helical domains of keratin proteins
-Currently a staff scientist at ObeTherapy Biotechnology, located at Evry, France

Paladini, Rudy
-Graduate student, BCMB Graduate Program 1992-98
-Rudy started the whole keratin 16 business
-Currently a postdoctoral fellow at Ontogeny, Inc. (Boston, MA).

Fradette, Julie
-Spent close to a year in the lab (1997-98) in the context of a collaboration with a Canadian research team

-Julie characterized the assembly properties of the type I keratin 19
-Currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pittsburgh

Takahashi, Kenzo
-Postdoctoral fellow 1993-97
-Kenzo cloned and characterized the human and mouse K6 isoform genes
-Currently a Senior Assistant Professor at Gunma University Medical School, Gunma, Japan

Dr. Denis Wirtz Department of Chemical Engineering
Whiting School of Engineering
Johns Hopkins University
Dr. Wirtz's expertise lies in the biophysical properties of biological polymers (e.g., DNA,actin).
We are collaborating with him to study the micromechanical properties of keratin filaments.
Dr. Charles Babinet Unite de Biologie du Developpement
Institut Pasteur, Paris, France
Dr. Babinet's main expertise is the early stages of mammalian embryogenesis. We are collaborating with him (and with
Dr. Emma Colucci in his laboratory) to engineer mouse strains harboring null mutations in specific keratin genes.
